KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has instructed her lawyer, Sankara Nair, to send a letter of demand to controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee following comments that he made in a FMT article, Tee labels Ambiga and Teresa “hypocrites”.

The letter of demand was confirmed in a brief email by S.N. Nair & Partners.

We refer to the Free Malaysia Today article captioned “Tee labels Ambiga and Teresa “hypocrites” (Article) that was published on Monday in respect of our client YB Teresa Kok Suh Sim, the MP for Seputeh, for whom we act as solicitors,” said Nair.

“Our client finds the said Article offensive and highly defamatory of her and has promptly instructed us to institute legal proceedings against Mr. Ridhuan Tee Abdullah. We will issue a letter of demand to Mr. Tee tomorrow.”

To a question by FMT as to whether a clarification was first needed, Nair said in some limited instances such may be a need but in this instance, from the facts and the words used, it is clear and unequivocal and he says he will proceed with a letter of demand straightaway.

Ridhuan Tee spewed vitriol in the direction of former Malaysian Bar President Ambiga Sreenevasan and Kok in the offending article, branding the former a witch (nenek kebayan) and accusing the latter of behaving “whiter than the whites”.

He was referring to a call purportedly issued by Ambiga to Sinar Harian for Tee’s weekly column to be terminated,

He accused her of not doing her research, which he said rendered her nothing more than a “lawyer buruk” (bad lawyer).

He went on to claim that his Sinar Harian article did not say anything about dressing in loincloths to enter their places of worship. That statement, he said, came from the ultra kiasu’s (DAP) own social media.

“Please investigate properly who the real racist is – me or the ultra kiasu?” he said. “When we defend our rights, we are branded racist.”

“But the speeches of the ultra kiasu are classified as in defence of human rights. What sort of jungle thinking is this?”

He added the country cannot be polluted by elements which would invite the wrath of God. “Ambiga’s own house would be rocked by an earthquake.”
